Coffee cup heating self-printed 3D - MMD0322
With the Cup Heater, you allwas have a hot coffee or tea Mug :-)
A different kind of heating element - - Normally the heating element would be a wire power resistor, with a transistor as the power switch. So the question arises, ? why not use the power ransistor as a heating element? This eliminates the procurement of the heating resistor, which is rarely found in the box in which everything can be found.

A aluminum plate 4 mm thick  is provided as the heating plate. Aluminum conducts heat well and is easy to work with (saws and drills). The desired temperature can be set, with the potentiometer P1, from approx. 20C to 90C.
It is heated with a TIP142 Darlington transistor (as Silicon Heat Element) that can handle up to 125 watts, we use 25 watts. When the LED is on, the heater is in up-haeting process.
Assembly / Construction
No circuit board is necessary. First, drill a hole in the middle of the heating plate (3.2mm countersunk) for mounting the transistor. Assemble the transistor, solder R2, D3, D2, P2 (D2 / D3) lying on the heating plate. Wire NTC1, P1, LED1, S1 and K1 with a 10cm cable for each contact. Insert heating plate, mount P1, LED1, S1 and K1. Solder R1, R3, NTC1, P1, LED1, S1 and K1. Attach the 4 plate holders in the corners and clamp the NTC1 under one.   Well - Turn on and test

Note: A ceramic mug is not really a good thermal conductor. The hotplate can only hold the temperature of a non-metallic cup. It is not possible to heat drinks in an acceptable time
